While Father Sweeney was at St. Joseph, he did a few things that still are in place today.
For example, when Mr. Harley died, Father had the current Welcome Room named after him. Mr. Harley was the Head Usher until he could no longer serve.
Father Sweeney was also involved in the community. When Prince George’s county built PG House in
Seat Pleasant, Father Sweeney asked the members of the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry to provide meals once a month.
At this time, the parishioners were very much involved in the upkeep of St. Joseph. For example, our cleaning committee donated funds for cleaning supplies that the committee used to clean the entire building.
Fish fries and the bazaar got underway during this time as well to help raise money for a new roof for the church and the school. Both were leaking badly. To save money the men of the Parish came to the rescue to replace the roof.
